Fillipo Calandri
Calandri was born around 1467 in Sienne. Nothing is known of his life.
This contempory of Pacioli treated the
problem of points in a manuscript held at the Public Library of Sienne (Codex L.
VI. 45). As he is the author of one of the first printed
arithmetics, Philippi Calandri ad
nobilem et studiosum Julianum Laurentii Medicem de Arimethrica opusculum,
published in 1491 at Florence, we may date this manuscript to around
the same period.
Norbert Meusnier suggests that Calandri is interested in these problems
only
because they illustrate the calculations of proportions. He appears to
report solutions given by other commercial arithmetics but does not
systematically apply their methods. The relevant text appears on
pages 81 recto and verso, and on pages 97 verso and 98 recto. Calandri on Division of Stakes.
