Rudolf Wolf
1816-1893
Wolf taught mathematics and physics at the Realschule of Bern,
mathematics and astronomy at the university of Bern and astronomy at
both the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule and University of
Zürich. In 1843 he founded the journal Mittheilungen der Naturforschenden
Gesellschaft in Bern.
Wolf became interested in geometric probability upon reading a
description of Buffon's needle problem. The two
papers of interest are
both from this journal.
