Faculty academic genealogy
This merits some explanation. We often think of our academic heritage as like
a family tree, where one's doctoral disseration advisor is in the position of
a father or mother, and fellow students are referred to as siblings. Below is
a list of doctoral faculty in the department... Each mathematician is linked
to his or her entry in the Mathematics
Genealogy Project database; a person's page lists her or his advisor, if
known, and a link to the advisor's database entry. By following the series of
links begun in the list below, you will find that we have some pretty famous
mathematical ancestors. (There is no project which tracks undergraduate mathematics
advisors, no matter how fondly we think of them...) The computer scientists
have pages constructed from information in the Theoretical
Computer Science Database.
